Under this programme the goinghomedotcom Trust will open up libraries in different areas to allow kids access to all kinds of reading materials which would normally be beyond their reach.
This will range from residential areas and slum areas for the disadvantaged who though may be attending school probably do not have access to adequate reading material if at all.
Working with various partners who will supply the premises and fittings and the staff whether volunteer or full time, the goinghomedotcom Trust will supply the books and maintain the stock.
The purpose of these libraries will also be to reach as many children as possible who would otherwise not have had the chance to access a wide variety of books and at literally no cost to them.
Some of the schools will be used as centers where kids from disadvantaged areas and would not otherwise have access to reading materials will be able to come in once a week and borrow a book to read and then return when they are finished and pick another. This would be kind of like mini reading tents.
Reading is knowledge and knowledge is empowerment. Thus a country with a strong reading culture is an empowered country. Due to the various problems that beset Kenyans in the day to day process of living, books are usually at best, last on the shopping list. As a result of this the importance of books is seldom realised and the youth grow up looking down at reading anything other than a newspaper as a waste of time.
The goinghomedotcom Trust believes that to inculcate a reading culture in Kenyans, they must be caught young, and to this end no effort must be spared to avail books to them with no excuse like poverty or otherwise being brooked. The goinghomedotcom Trust believes that if a child wants to read, indeed is dying to read, let all obstacles be removed to allow that child to achieve their objective
At the same time recovering addicts are especially encouraged to make use of this library for how to fruitfully fill in the hours especially in the early stages of the recovery road is often a problem. The library will provide an interesting and profitable way of spending countlesshours which were previously taking up with using ones drug of choice.
Meanwhile the first library (inlcuding novels) is at the goinghomedotcom Trust's headquarters at Hurlingham where Kenyans especially young people are encouraged to join in large numbers to take advantage of a wide selection of books available inlcuding all kinds of reference books on hobbies and careers. This library is both a reference and lending library.
We would also request that is you would like to help this worthy cause with any of your childrens old books (no matter what level) or even new books that you would like to donate, please get in touch with us at goinghomedotcom@yahoo.com and we can guide you where to deliver the books.
