goinghomedotcom: Advocacy & Communication 2001

goinghomedotcom: Advocacy & Communication (ADCOM) 2002 This is the diary of events for 2002 covering all the major events that goinghomedotcom participated in. David Ogot snr. a recovering alcoholic and Director of goinghomedotcom presented talks in diverse venues all over Kenya, sharing his story with thousands of Kenyans many of whom were students. Everywhere he told his story people were moved and this is the whole purpose. For the more we tell our stories, the more others will be inspired to come out and tell theirs. As these stories are told and passed on the stigma, and prejudice surrounding alcoholism will slowly be overcome enabling alcoholics and their families to easily seek treatment without shame. Telling these stories will also help show Kenyans especially the young, that their lives are in their hands. "It all starts out like a joke, and good fun, 'everybody-does-it' kind of thing. But then the horror sets in - and then you are alone." As long as there is someone out there willing to listen we will continue to talk for that is what goinghomedotcom is about - "touching lives through inspiration." above right: part of the gathering in Siakago, Mbeere listening to the dangers of the drug alcohol.

Dala Newsletter 2002 'Dala' means home in Dholuo and is a publication of goinghomedotcom Trust and is published regularly on the Internet by goinghomedotcom Trust. The newsletter deals with issues pertaining to alcohol use and alcoholism and treatment in Kenya as well as other drug use related issues. The newsletter specialises in bringing to the fore issues which are on concern in this fields to all Kenyans of goodwill - issues which the mainstream press for various reasons choose to avoid or not deal with in depth. 'Dala' is the Kenyan watchdog on these issues which have been swept under the carpet for too long, and its aim is to bring these issues to light for public debate and to thus create demand reduction in the use of alcohol and other drugs among the Kenyan populace and especially the youth.
